2008-Jun-10 : Development restarted!

Simplicity is key

IMPORTANT NOTES :

  • PROTUX IS NOT A REPLACEMENT OF PROTOOLS ! IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PROTOOLS ! IT IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, AND MUCH LESS POWERFULL THAN PROTOOLS! If you want something as mature as Protools in GNU/Linux, try Ardour.
  • PROTUX IS UNDER HEAVY DEVELOPMENT AND CANNOT HELP YOU VERY MUCH RIGHT NOW. WAIT FOR RELEASE 1.0 OR USE IT NOW UNDER YOUR OWN RISK
  • The idea of Keyboard + MOUSE use (called JMB) was invented in PROTUX project, not in "some" other project as they claim. They say their interface is INOVATIVE and I checked that it is against GPL concepts not respect credits on any GPL'd software. Even the keyboard mapping was copied from PROTUX. You can check the original ideas for JMB design in Sourceforge archived mailing from year 2000! We are moving a claim together the Free Software Foundation requesting the proper credits on any WEB SITE of any project that the JMB or any obviously copied Keybord+MOUSE engine in a DAW is being used.
Protux is being developed to be a complete Digital Media Production tool, or Digital Media Workstation. We focus on develop it for GNU/Linux users, but it runs in any workstation with a Java >=1.5 VM installed, and even in the web thru a standard browser that supports Java (Believe or not). Protux aims to offer an integrated environment for audio, video and midi production, thru a inovative interface where the productivity is focused.

Some of goals of Protux are :

  • Work on float-point tranparent audio file handling with full 32Bits internal processing
  • Open any 16-32 bits, 4Khz - 256Khz sample Rate. mono/stereo audio
  • Use JMB (Keyboard driven) or Classic Mouse/Menu interface
  • Never loose your data , by using only Real Time filters
  • Use a soft bus mapping strategy in order to be able to move a project from a box to another without changing its route mapping
  • Use Null buses capabilities in case your don't have any sound device.
  • Automate filters and curves, including equalization
  • Zoom it quickly, shuttle it even quicker by JMB usage

The Protux project is lead by Luciano Domenico Giordana (luciano domenico at gmail dot com) with the support of Reinhard Amersberger ( protux at web dot de ). If you are a developer with strong O.O.P and abstraction skills, and want to contribute to the project , please contact one of us.
